The brown-banded cockroach is known as a stored-product pest that also causes health problems in humans. It belongs to the family Ectobiidae (wood cockroaches). Brown-banded cockroaches are nocturnal and spend most of the day in hiding places. Despite infestations, sightings are very rare, and a large population could develop unnoticed. The oothecae (egg cases) are deposited near the hiding places.
