The box tree moth is an invasive pest from East Asia that has spread rapidly in Europe and Switzerland since around 2007. The caterpillars of this moth species feed on the leaves and bark of boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) and can kill entire plants within a short time. Due to a lack of natural predators, the moth is difficult to control and poses a significant threat to gardens, parks, and cemeteries, where boxwood is frequently used as an ornamental plant.
