The common house mosquito is the most prevalent mosquito species in Switzerland and throughout Central Europe. It is adaptable, prefers stagnant water for egg-laying, and occurs in large numbers, especially during the summer months. Its bites cause intense itching and redness, and in some cases, allergic reactions. This species is considered a potential vector of disease, particularly in connection with the West Nile virus, which is increasingly being detected in Europe.
