The grain weevil is a globally widespread stored-product pest and is considered one of the most significant pests in grain stores, mills, silos, and pantries. In Switzerland, it occurs predominantly in agricultural operations, bakeries, and food processing plants, but can also infest households. The larvae develop directly inside the grain and completely destroy it. An infestation often goes undetected for a long time and leads to considerable economic losses due to quality loss, contamination, and unsuitability for animal feed.
