The median wasp is a rare wasp species in Central Europe, commonly found in low mountain regions. It belongs to the long-headed wasp family. With its very dark yellow-black body and bright yellow face (eye socket and temples completely yellow), it is hardly distinguishable from other long-headed wasps. It builds its nests in shrubs at a height of 1-2 meters.

Due to their way of life, they are hardly aggressive towards humans, except near their nests.
