The rice weevil is a widespread stored-product pest, found in Switzerland particularly in food processing plants, grain mills, bakeries, and households. It primarily infests processed grain products such as flour, semolina, and pasta, contaminating them with excrement, secretions, and larval skins. Both the beetles and larvae cause economic damage, especially through spoilage and altered odor of the goods.
