The red poultry mite is a parasitic bloodsucker that primarily infests birds, but can also affect other animals and humans. It is nocturnal and hides during the day in cracks and crevices in nests, coops, or aviaries. Its bite causes itching and skin irritation, and in severe infestations, can lead to anemia and weakness in affected animals. The mites reproduce rapidly and can survive for months without a host.
