The red fox is the most widespread wild animal in Switzerland and is exceptionally well adapted to a wide variety of habitats, from mountainous regions to urban settlements. Particularly in cities, the fox is increasingly becoming a synanthropic species. Its nocturnal habits, curiosity, and highly developed sense of smell make it a skilled hunter. However, fox dens under garden sheds, droppings on playgrounds, and predation of domestic animals (e.g., chickens) repeatedly cause conflicts. Furthermore, there is the potential transmission of diseases, such as the fox tapeworm.
