The silverfish is a true ancient creature; this species is believed to be over 300 million years old. Silverfish prefer warm, humid environments and have a preference for carbohydrates. They are easily recognizable by their bright silvery scales. Upon death, the animal contracts and sheds its scales. These insects are nocturnal and avoid light. Silverfish require a temperature between 20 and 30°C and a humidity level between 80 and 90%. Therefore, they are frequently found in bathrooms, kitchens, and basements. They are most often found under cracks and crevices where moisture lingers.
