Stored product pests
These pests infest stored food and supplies in homes, warehouses, commercial kitchens, and production facilities. Beetles or moths often go unnoticed for a long time because they develop inside packaging. An infestation leads to product loss, customer complaints, and can cause business interruptions.
Characteristics
Stored product pests are insects that feed on stored food, animal feed, or packaging materials. Typical examples include flour beetles, dried fruit flies, grain weevils, rice weevils, and grain moths. In bakeries, warehouses, canteens, and supermarkets, they cause product losses and can render entire batches unusable. Many species develop hidden within products and often remain undetected for extended periods.

Signs of an infestation
An infestation often only becomes apparent when insects are visible in flight or when there are noticeable changes to the product:
Stored product pests multiply particularly quickly in warehouses with high temperatures and humidity. Products infested with pests must be disposed of.
Live or dead beetles, larvae or moths in or around food
Fine webbing (moth larvae) in flour, grain or dry food
Freight granules or fecal residues in the packaging material
Swollen or lumpy products due to larval activity
Small drill holes in grains of cereal or pasta products
